When Chastanet claimed civil servants take him for a “pappyshow,” he revealed his true mindset. During his tenure, Chastanet exercised absolute control over civil servants, effectively demoting the Cabinet Secretary, the head of the civil service to install his handpicked Cabinet Secretary. This constitutional breach was a warning to all civil servants, that I Allen Chastanet will break the law to govern my way!
When policy decisions lagged, he personally intervened, reprimanding them for delays. His actions were mirrored in his cluster ministries – with him presiding over the majority of state organisations.
Now, as a member of the opposition, Chastanet arrogantly assumes he still commands their allegiance and expects them to keep him informed about the government’s inner workings. Even more audaciously, he believes they should undermine the current administration on his behalf. In their desperation, UWP has publicly stated that government workers are not leaking documents but Allen, what is there to leak! This government is more transparent than plastic wrap. The one leaked document that Guy Joseph claims to have has been a piece of paper he waved at a meeting but has not been released for public consumption. We call his bluff!
The entitlement and expectation of sabotage are the real reasons behind his frustration with civil servants. This has led him to declare WAR on any who pappyshow him. If Chastanet isn’t the devil himself, then who is?
